FAQ'S
What is Equine Sports Massage?
Equine Sports Massage is the therapeutic application of professional sports massage techniques applied to the horse.
How often should my horse receive a massage?
At times, all it takes is one massage for you to see visible relief in your horse. However, there are variables for the individual horse, such as, the length of time the horses issues were noticeable and the severity of the issue. It is not unusual for a horse to have three therapeutic massages before seeing completely satisfying results.
How soon before or after an event can I or my horse receive a massage?
White Horse Therapeutics provides both maintenance and event massages. During a maintenance massage we are able to handle deeper muscular issues. Before your event, the clients massage will not be as deep and will generally be considered a muscular pep talk. A massage treatment following an event is a great way to relax and be prepared for further work.
Where is the treatment performed?
As a mobile service, White Horse Therapeutics travels to your facility or event. As long as a relaxed, quiet atmosphere is available, a massage session can be performed anywhere.
Why is it beneficial for you to treat my horse and myself?
The horse and rider tend to mirror each other and will make compensations for each other’s areas of concern. By working on both, I am able to determine issues on each and free the client from these hindrances creating a more fluid movement and awareness between the team. Anytime a client, be it a horse or its rider, is free from any muscular imbalances, your performance will be enhanced.
How do you determine if an animal is experiencing discomfort during a treatment?
I use various techniques to give my clients relief. Occasionally, there may be discomfort during a massage when tackling deeper muscular restrictions but never distress. As an educated, experienced therapist, I am constantly touching, watching and listening to my client. It is my job to know the difference.
